Samsung's next Galaxy smartphones

Samsung's next Galaxy smartphones will arrive April 10.

Samsung is done with flagship announcements for the time being, but it still has a number of mid-range offerings on the way. And in preparation for their arrival, the company has just announced a new event that will take place on April 10th.

What can be expected from the event?

Revealed via Twitter, Samsung’s latest “Galaxy Event” will apparently see us “enter the era of Live.” Although unconfirmed, this presumably means that the company’s upcoming devices will focus in some way or another on photography.

The official date and tagline are accompanied by a short video which depicts a skateboarder and three smartphone-shaped devices, thus indicating that three smartphones are on the way.

As noted in the opening paragraph, Samsung won’t be announcing any flagship models next month. Instead, the April event will likely see the arrival of three Galaxy A-branded smartphones. More specifically, the Galaxy A90, Galaxy A60, and Galaxy A40.

The Samsung Galaxy A90

According to a recent rumor, Samsung is hard at work on a budget flagship that will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855, just like the Galaxy S10 series. Details about the model are scarce at the moment, but there’s a strong possibility that it could be the Galaxy A90.

In light of the recent trend towards bezel-less displays, the Galaxy A90 is expected to adopt a new pop-out camera system – this will give Samsung the opportunity to skip both the display hole and the notch. But unlike other implementations, this pop-out module might also rotate, thus removing the need for separate rear cameras.

Now, in order to keep costs down and profit margins up, a few corners will probably be cut. For one, the AMOLED display found on the Galaxy S10 series will most likely be ditched in favor of a cheaper LCD panel. Similarly, a glass build is extremely unlikely. Instead, Samsung will probably opt for a glossy plastic rear.

At the moment, pricing information remains unconfirmed. However, if the device does turn out to be Samsung’s rumored budget flagship, a retail price in the region of $600 is highly likely. After all, this would allow it to compete pretty directly with the upcoming OnePlus 7
